An update from South Auckland Middle School: At our schools we put a huge emphasis on the ability of all students to make progress through a love of learning and purposeful practice (a "growth mindset"). The key skill is reading.

Our Year 7s current project is great books and they use The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis as their base. It is not uncommon for them to read all 7 Chronicles of Narnia during the 5 week project.

Our Year 8s cross-curricula project is centered on Narrative Poetry - with The Highwayman as the key poem.

Our Year 10s work through a range of tasks around Shakespearian themes and cover both Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo and Juliet.

The Year 9 project is NZ Writing and they have just had the huge privilege of having great NZ author Maurice Gee respond to their questions on the book The Fat Man - and his life in general.

You can see his answers here:

The students are simply delighted.
